Sinful Colors New Shades For 2017

Sinful Colors released a small display of 8 colors back in November but I haven't got around to purchasing them until now. This is their "2017" display and it says "Must-Have Shades." I'm not sure if I should posting the swatches now because their website acts like they haven't been released yet though I've been to multiple Walgreens and saw them. they are! The 2 shades I didn't pick up were the clear coat and Snow Me White. Photos are all without top coat.

So Daupe! Is a grey/taupe neutral color. Not my favorite thing to wear, but I can see it being used in nail art. Good formula, only took 2 coats.
apPEAsing is a soft pea green that leans slightly mint. I don't know why my bottle looks blue. The color on my nails is the color in the bottle. Definitely an instant favorite, especially for spring. Streaky on the 1st coat, evened out in 2 - 3.
Jam Out is a light magenta with strong green shimmer going throughout it. It looks amazing on the brush and even more beautiful in person. I just don't know if it's the color for me. Good news, if you missed out on the Faceted Illusions collection (I did), this is an exact dupe of Shell Out (Sinful Shine). I don't own it, but I have seen photos. This is with 2 coats, formula was super easy.
Deep End in a dusty blue with light blue shimmer going throughout it. I will warn you, this is not color accurate. It's lighter than this in person and more dusty. I couldn't get an accurate photo so what you're looking at is sort of a light cobalt...ugh. I tried! But this color is beautiful. Instant favorite, and the formula is great. Only took 2 coats.
Bitten is just a classic red. I'm not sure why they needed another red, especially with No Text Red, Ruby Ruby, and Gogo Girl all being basically the same shade of red. Maybe like a 2% difference in the tones. So yeah, yet another red. Super bright but the formula was fantastic. Slightly jelly when it applies, but builds up in 2 coats.
Jade Kat is a jewel toned green with shimmer going throughout it. Remember the Kylie Jenner collection? Well, Kryptonite is basically the same shade. I'm not too fond of this shade on it's own. It's quite sheer and take 2 - 3 coats to build up.

So, what do you think of these new shades? Going to pick up any? My personal favorites are Deep End and apPEAsing. These are already available and at Walgreens for $1.99 each. I'm excited to see what else Sinful Colors will release in 2017.

What did you think of this product? Was the video too long? Maybe for future videos I'll just have images of wear time instead of updated mini videos...

Sinful Colors - Bow-lieve In Magic

Christmas displays are already popping up all over the place (it's not even Thanksgiving yet here in the US...-_-) but, nonetheless, it's an excuse to RACK UP SOME MORE POLISHES. As if I need any. Yes, today's post is brought to you by Sinful Colors, a brand that is quickly becoming my favorite drugstore brand. Sorry Sally Hansen, y'all getting too expensive for me as a collector. So here is the display I found at Walgreens:

I thought it featured 8 new polishes but there is actually only 5 "new" polishes. I say "new" because two of them are basically exact dupes of something they already have.

Sinful Colors Sweepstakes

Sinful Colors hosted a giveaway for 15 days in October and you could enter daily. I normally do these things mindlessly in the hopes that I will win something but won't be super disappointed if I don't. So imagine my surprise when I got an email saying I was a winner! I was the dinner of day 4, and the prizes were all Sinful Colors x Kylie Jenner polishes. I won the Trend Matters Velvet complete collection. I was super excited. I did find out that I already owned 5 of 11 polishes I won, but the good news? They were all my favorites so now I have backups! How serendipitous. It definitely pays to enter all giveaways you are interested in, no matter how small the prize.

Swatching YouTube Video Guideline

Since I'm new to YouTube, and maybe you're thinking of making nail polish videos yourself, I'm creating this guideline on how to edit a video for nail polish swatches.

1. Introduction - What the video will be about plus an overview of the polishes that are going to be mentioned

2. Jumping right into the swatches. Close-up of the polish and it's name, along with a description of the color

3. The swatch. Show the polish being applied to the nail (only if you're doing live application, otherwise show a photo). Show each coat being applied, usually only two is necessary.

4. Show a video of the full manicure with the bottle. Describe why you picked that polish/or why you like/dislike it. Explain what collection it is from (omit this if they are all from one specific collection)

5. Close out the video

Upcoming YouTube Videos

I've been slacking on my YouTube page, but here is a small list of videos I'm planning to film/edit this week:

  • Sinful Colors x Kylie Jenner swatches from my haul video
  • Intro To Stamping (Stamping Basics)
  • Review on Revlon's new Basecoat
  • Review on Revlon's new Quick Dry top coat
  • Review on Revlon's new Gel Shine top coat (NOT gel envy, this is different)
  • Review on Winstonia plates (Generations 1 - 4)

I finally got my custom URL for YouTube! You can now type OR to get to my page. Before it was just a long string of numbers and characters.

Sinful Colors - Konstellation

I'm so prepared for fall manis that I'm cranking out all the colors I have that have been idle for the past 6 months waiting to be touched! Today I dipped into my Sinful Colors collection (which is now HUGE thanks to the Kylie drawer is overflowing). I have so many fall colors to play with! I was excited about this color since it was highly rated in the nail art community. I picked it up months ago and I don't know if it's still available in stores...most sold out and never restocked. I know my Walgreens is still selling the Denim & Bling collection, but I bought all the ones I cared about from that. All that is left is textured holographic glitters that I felt like I had enough of.

So here is Konstellation! A gray base with purple shimmer that shifts to teal in different lighting! I have a video of the shift on my instagram (@faerietalenails). I paired it with an accent nail using China Glaze's Let's Dew It (Fall 2015).

This. Was. Impossible. To. Photograph. But I did the best I could. Sun was down when I went outside so sunlight wasn't possible. So I used my daylight bulb.

Okay, I think I'm done with the nail posts for the day!

Julep - Candace

I mainly bought this polish because it shares my name! Even spelled the same way! Secret to getting cheap name brand polishes? Destash pages! StoreEnvy is chock full of them and most are only swatches once or even never used! Shipping can be a bit high but it's worth it when you find hidden gems like this one, which I think only came in a monthly box if you're a Julep Maven? I don't know if you can purchase Julep individually. Anywho, here is the swatch!

It's perfect for fall! It's kind of a brown/bronze with gold shimmer throughout it, though in different lighting, the shimmer goes from gold to a purple-ish color!

Gamer Chic

I told you I gotta stamp ALL the things! Why is there no meme generator for blogger...These are pink and girly and gamer-y and amazing. I bought UberChic Beauty's Geek Love 01 plate specifically for this image. Waste of money? NOPE. There's a bunch of other cute images I plan to use as well (I'm looking at you, circuit board). Again using my trusty blue metal stamper, Jolie Polish Black Stamping polish, and China Glaze's Spring In My Step (Spring 2014). I also have a quick video on these on both my instagram and my youtube (both are @faerietalenails).

Neon Tribal

Experimenting with my new blue metal stamper from Jolie Polish and I loooooove it! I just want to stamp everything. Here's a tribal-ish design I did before summer ended. I used winstonia plate W306 and Jolie Polish Black Stamping polish. Base is China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy.

Rainy Days

I'M SO FAR BEHIND IN POSTS I'M SORRRRYYYY. But I'm catching up today, starting with these failed attempt at reverse stamping nails! So, over on YouTube I posted an unboxing/haul of the new Bundle Monster stamping plates, and this is the one I played with first! It is by de_briz. I chose the rainy day images to create a theme though I don't think it turned out well. The main reason being I used a quick dry top coat to create the decals and they came out flimsy. But I discovered the error of my ways through a facebook group and saw that I needed Wet N Wild's Shine Protector (their top coat) for easy decals. So I picked up two bottles and I am anticipating trying again with that; maybe even using a lighter base color.

The base is China Glaze's Out Like A Light (Holiday 2014) and the decals are filled in with multiple colors from the Electric Nights (summer 2015) collection. The only nail I'm proud of is the thumb and it's the most awkward shaped.

Purple Galaxy

Yes, another galaxy design! On Twitter I created a poll asking which nail art should I do, galaxy, video game controller (via stamping), or rain drops (via stamping).

No one answered. So I'm going to do all three! This was the first one I wanted to get out because I filmed a tutorial for it - originally for instagram but I also uploaded a slower version on YouTube. I used Sinful Colors "Karnival" for the base and although it's a lovely royal purple, it is very watery and made a mess everywhere. Next, I sponged on a white in a diagonal direction, followed by sponging some pink, then purple. I topped everything with Fairy Dust by China Glaze, then free-handed some "stars" and twinkles. I used tutorial from her instagram. See the video below!

Rapunzel Design

Following up with my Sinful Color's haul, I used one of the polishes - "King Size." It's this gorgeous purple with gold shimmer throughout. Know what purple and gold remind me of? Rapunzel of course! My favorite Disney Princess from my favorite movie - Tangled. You guys know I do a lot of Rapunzel related nails...this is no exception! This is basically just a recreation of CutePolish's super old tutorial where she included pink/purple stripes but I opted to just use the corset top as an accent nail.

King Size dries to a satiny finish...not matte, not glossy...almost like a taffy look to it. I applied a glossy top coat over everything.

Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy Wear Test

Hello! It's been awhile since I've made a blog post but that's okay! I've started becoming more active on YouTube [Link] (subscribe to get notified on videos) and of course I'm frequently active on Instagram [[Link]. You can also click my social media buttons for more things.

Anyway, I'm trying out Revlon's ColorStay Gel Envy polish which is supposed to wear like a gel but applies like a polish. I've had it on for 3 days now and have some minor tip wear and slight chipping however I have washed my hands and used household chemicals multiple times today for work and I'm sure that is the major contributing factor because my right hand hasn't really chipped at all. So, I'm seeing how long it truly lasts in regards to how long it claims to last though there is no specific time length on the bottles, their website, or advertisements.

Here it is freshly applied with the Diamond Top Coat and the shade is called Wild Card.

I'll have a video posted here once I finish it showcasing the application and wear time. I have it ready to upload, I just need to record the next few days to see how it holds up.

Vintage Roses

I never thought I would be able to do these because I could never get the technique right for making them look a little like roses. I actually bought nail vinyls in a rose design to avoid trying again. But I sat down, watched some youtube videos, and this came out of it. The color scheme is inspired from my Mii's character in the Nintendo social app - Miitomo. You can add me if you want, my name is Lollygag and the QR code is on my personal instagram @pockettemonster.

They kind of look like roses!! I'm so proud. Base color is Queen B by China Glaze and the other colors are all China Glaze as well. Peonies & Park Ave for the roses base, just a blob of it. Leaves are Treble Maker. Then the rose details are Seas The Day and Spring In My Step. Glossed it over with top coat and ta daaaa! Was so excited for these, I'm keeping them until the start coming off. My middle one has already started to because of work but I'm hoping they'll stay through the weekend.

Sinful Colors - Sweet Tooth

Sinful colors released three collections at once for spring: Live in Colorland, Play Your Cards Right, and Sugar Crushin. I picked up a few from each collection, though some look like re-promotes, from Walgreens (the only place that seems to have new collections by Sinful Colors). I have yet to see the King Kylie collections spread around the US. I don't much care for the Jenners/Kardashians but I was interested in the new shades, and the new finishes like the demi mattes. But eh, guess I won't be finding those. Anyway, I was experimenting with my swatch wheels and did the sugar crushin' collection thinking they were just super sparkly, but they actually dry textured! Much like the China Glaze Sea Goddess collection or Sally Hansen's Sugar Shimmers. I purchase a teal and a blue, then went back for the other two, which is a coral and a berry color. I went with the coral shade since it seems like the most springy color. As for the Live in Colorland collection, I picked up four of those, which dry completely matte, and for Play Your Cards Right, I picked up one glitter, which has spades/hearts/clubs/diamonds in it, and a deep shimmery brown, similar to Prosecco from their Sinful Shine line.

Here is Sweet Tooth from the Sugar Crushin' collection:

Two coats, no top coat. Sorry I keep switching up my hand poses, I don't know what I'm comfortable with...I think for swatches I'll do the four fingers, and for nail art I'll include the thumb.

China Glaze - Change Your Altitude

I haven't abandoned you fellow blogosphere! I'm just more active on Instagram (clicka da link at the top). However, I am working on my YouTube channel and I am trying to be more active with more nail art designs as opposed to just swatches. So I gave this color a try from last years fall collection from China Glaze. It's called Change Your Altitude and basically it's just a nice gray. I didn't have anything like it, everything else I had was too dark. So I love pairing this with white! I think it looks so chic. I did two looks:

Both of these were created using nail vinyls from The first one is with their zig zag tape and the second one is with their greek key vinyls (which were almost impossible to use). Also I'm trying to get better at taking photos so instead of having dry cuticles, the second photo shows my cuticles lathered in some delicious my bliss kiss cuticle oil. Oh, there's spilled polish on the bottle because I'm clumsy and spilled some...luckily it just ended up all over my uber mat.

China Glaze: Off Shore Collection

I know I did swatches of these a few years ago (they were for summer 2014) but I made a video on them now! You can watch it here:

I'm getting better at video editing! Sorry for the quality of my previous video, I am very new to this. But now I know how to make them look decent.

New Nail Shape

My nails tend to grow in a triangle shape (i.e. wider at the tip than at the top) and I ain't havin' none of that no more so I FIXED IT. They're finally long enough - except for you middle finger and thumb on my cinderella hand I'm looking at you - to file down to a lovely shape. I went with what I like to think is rounded but I guess it could also be almond? Either way I am satisfied and to prevent such breakages from happening I slapped on a base coat in hopes that they won't snap before I start my swatchfest tomorrow for my next video.

Look at this glorious high quality photo! Warning - nudes!

China Glaze City Flourish - Swatches & Review

Did you know I'm on youtube? Well now you do! This is my first review video and the audio quality is meh and the video quality could be better (never fear, I got new software for my next video to make it actually decent) but check it out! I know the collection is old but I wanted to start somewhere and I don't have the collections from this year. I have all of the 2014 collections, and summer/fall of 2015, so look for those coming up. Also, constructive criticism is welcome! I'm new so I want to learn all the tricks!

Sharpie Watercolor

I've been wanting to try these for awhile and now I finally got around to it! I watched a few tutorials and it seems that most people scribble the sharpie in a dappen dish, then dip the paintbrush in rubbing alcohol and mix. But, I didn't want to ruin my only dappen dish so I used a ziploc bag, which worked out great!

As a base, I used wet n wild's white creme. It took about 3 - 4 coats to be completely opaque, so I would probably try finding an easier white to work with. I just bought this because whites and blacks are frequently used so I tend to go cheap on them (this was $0.99). For the sharpies, I used a neon pink, neon green, and a blue that is by BIC, not Sharpie. I then scribble on my ziploc bag, dipped a brush in rubbing alcohol, swirled it around, and gently painted/dabbed on each color until the mixed a little. The was the end result! The remind me of painted easter eggs and I've had them on for like 5 days now, which is a lot for someone who changes manis so often. I plan on stamping over it.

Valentine's Stamping

Tried out making decals for the first time on my uber mat! It turned out alright, definitely need some scissors for trimming the excess because I was just using my cleanup brush. A q-tip would have done better as well. For this look I used China Glaze's Feel The Breeze from their Off Shore collection (summer 2014). There is a second pink, Float On, but it is darker and I wanted a lighter, more girly tone. For the stamp I used Seas The Day from the same collection, stamped it onto some top coat on my uber mat, let it dry, top coated it again, then peeled it off and applied it to my nail. Feel The Breeze is such a lovely color but the formula, ugghhh. It was almost unworkable. It dries way too fast and dries to an almost matte finish, similar to the entire City Flourish collection. I love this color so I may buy a backup bottle but I am just not digging the formula. Also applied a heart stud that I purchased from Daily Charme.

The plate I used is Winstonia's W102. Bundle Monster's Elleandish plate is also full of great Valentine's day etchings!

China Glaze Holographic (5 out of 12)

Today I have China Glaze's 2nd attempt at a holographic collection (the first being ancient, hard to find, and crazy expensive if you can find it) and it's...okay. Most of these were on clearance at Sally's - which is now closed in my area *sob*sob*sob* - and one or two I ordered online. Overall the formula is amazing, smooth is 2 coats and creamy applies super easy. But the holographicness of them? Not so much. Orly's Mirrorball or L'Oreal's Masked Affair did a better job at holographics. Bottom line? Stick to Color Club if you're looking for true holographic polishes. These are great for being on clearance but not for full price.

Dancing & Prancing

Been wanting to use this polish but just haven't yet. Love how it looks in the bottle. I want to try it again over different colors but I think black made it pop really well. This is Dancing & Prancing by China Glaze from their Twinkle collection. Application was fine, the glitter is dense, but I added 2 coats. Hard to capture in artificial light, would look better in natural lighting.

Love & Hearts

Little Valentine's Day design. Base is Easy Going by Sinful Colors and the red is Seas the Day by China Glaze. Stamp is the Bundle Monster collab plate with Elleandish. This would probably look nice mattified! I have February's birthstone post coming up, I just need to take a photo.

Playing Around with the Featured Post Option

Thinking about adding a "featured post of the month" or a "featured polish/shade/color of the month" to the sidebar. Maybe doing nail art based on birthstone colors for each month? That'd be pretty cool. January is Garnet, so maybe working with a nice deep red. More on this later!

Dripping Galaxy

I've done galaxies before, but how about a dripping one? These were inspired by instagram user's polishthatnail and! Their versions included earth surrounded by a dripping galaxy but I kept it simple and just used a peachy pink for the base.

Vinyls are from and it is there paint drip vinyl. Base is China Glaze - Pack Lightly. Galaxy is a standard black, Sally Hansen's Plum Power, Pure Ice Not Now and Deja Vu, and China Glaze - Fairy Dust.

Pure Ice - Deja Vu (Revisited)

Upon doing my dripping galaxy nails with this color in the mix, I figured, why not do a solo mani with it again? It's a beautiful shade and you are lucky if you can find it anywhere in Walmart nowadays (unless you have a really good, well-stocked Walmart). So here it is! Sunlight and daylight bulb lamp photos of Deja Vu by Pure Ice. Now with better clean-up and nicer cuticles!

Also, as noted in my original post, this is a dupe for Butter London's Scouse. 3 coats with top coat.
